Prior to the hearing the accused entered into a Deed of Repayment with the TAC and had already repaid a total of $6,500.00. The magistrate with conviction sentenced the accused to a $4,000.00 fine, ordered the accused to repay the outstanding restitution amount of $4,308.72 and ordered the accused to pay TAC’s professional costs of $1,125.
Remarks:
The accused was a physiotherapist who was providing services to TAC clients where over a period of some 16 months submitted 194 invoices for services and / or goods provided to the TAC clients. Of those invoices only 16 were confirmed by the TAC clients as being legitimate. Consequently 178 invoices were falsely submitted and the accused received a total of $10,808.72 in benefits fraudulently.
