MEDIA RELEASE: 18th May 2009

The Transport Accident Commission (TAC) is calling on young people to put pen to paper and turn their short film ideas into reality.

There are only two weeks left for people aged 25 and under to enter the Make a Film, Make a Difference short-film competition.

TAC Senior Manager Marketing John Thompson said entering the competition was quick and simple.

“All you need is a fresh idea for a short film that will get your mates to think twice about taking risks on the road,” Mr Thompson said.

“In 2008, a quarter of those killed on Victorian roads were under 25. This is a chance for young people to make their own film encouraging their peers to look out for each other on the road.”

The film ideas will be judged by a high calibre panel of judges from across the entertainment industry including actors, reporters and respected film makers.

“MAFMAD is in its 7th year and has attracted the respect of industry insiders,” Mr Thompson said.

“While open to people of all interests, the competition has also helped build the careers of young Victorian film makers.”

Two winners receive a $20,000 production budget, access to film industry experts and $5,000 prize money.

The winning films are screened at the St Kilda Film Festival and at cinemas across the state during summer.

Competition entries close on 29 May 2009. Details at www.mafmad.com.au
