The Transport Accident Commission has uncovered the real life stories of Victorians who have narrowly avoided death and serious injury on the roads for its latest campaign.
The TAC today launched the Living Proof campaign, which shows how measures like child booster seats, wire rope barriers, safer cars and safer speeds are already saving lives.
TAC lead road safety director Samantha Cockfield said the new campaign featured people who wanted to tell their story of survival.
“These people tell us how their lives were saved thanks to evolving road safety initiatives like road infrastructure, safer speed limits, car safety features and simple choices they made.”
“Sadly, far too often we hear the stories of people who lost their lives on the roads; this campaign tells people’s stories of survival,” Ms Cockfield said.
Ms Cockfield said the campaign would help Victorians understand how progress is being made in achieving Towards Zero, a future where no person dies or is seriously injured on our roads.
“These remarkable stories are proof of how Towards Zero is possible and that lives are already being saved thanks to the changes being made to improve road safety,” Ms Cockfield said.
Ms Cockfield said the TAC, Victorian Government, Victoria Police, VicRoads and the Department of Justice and Regulation were taking action to help Victoria achieve its Towards Zero vision.
“We’re doing everything we can to make our roads safer and more forgiving when the unexpected happens.”
“To get Towards Zero we also need everyone to play their part to keep themselves and other people on the roads safe by making safe choices,” Ms Cockfield said.
Living Proof stories will appear in newspapers, online, on radio and on billboards this month, with the TAC’s original Towards Zero commercial featuring Francisco and his 70 family members airing on TV.
